Nursery
Welcome to our team.
We'll provide you with some background to get you more acquainted with our grade level.
In Nursery we have eight homerooms. Each classroom has an average of nineteen students.
The Nursery team consists of eight teachers and each teacher has a full time assistant. To complement our group we also have a music and a physical education teacher.
At this age level children practice social skills as respecting the rights of others, sharing responsibility for the classroom and develop problem solving skills.
Nursery children derive enjoyment from fine motor activities such as drawing, using scissors, and building with blocks and legos. Students take pride in reciting rhymes, finger play and songs.
As you know, Nursery is the first year for our students in the A.S.F.M. so one of our goals is the beginning of English acquisition. Children are introduced to English using Spanish as the support language when needed. As the children get more familiarized with the second language the use of English increases. Our program also places a strong emphases on developing early literacy skills.
Our team meets weekly to share ideas, discuss issues and plan activities for each theme. We believe that working cooperatively as a team parallels our approach to supporting the development of young children.
We hope that this overview can help you to get prepared and we look forward to having you in our team and sharing with you our teaching experiences.
Sincerely,
The Nursery Team.
