In the evening of Friday, October 26, 2001, after many days of happy anticipation and planning, the l961 Graduating Class celebrated the 40th Anniversary of having bid a teary good-by to the beloved ivy halls of the ASFM. The dinner was held on a night to remember: a moonless sky, heavy rain, winding road to "Las Misiones" far out in the countryside. But nothing could deter this group of women who had shown fortitude, intelligence, drive, and sisterly love throughout the fifty years of being friends. Thelma and Agustín Arce welcomed all to their lovely home. The conversation was lively, the drinks were invigorating, the memories poignant. A highlight of the evening was a movie taken during the graduation ceremony. The bouffant hairdos, the spiked heels, the trim figures, all were duly admired. The dinner was delicious. The husbands patiently heard the anecdotes, the evocation of friends who no longer live here, the list of teachers who will never be forgotten, the innumerable activities that the school promoted among the students, the laughter and some tears. Much too soon that magic place had to be closed. Fortunately, the monthly reunions give this group an opportunity to relive those days and also to share the present.
It was certainly a blessing to attend and graduate from the American School Foundation of Monterrey.
Here´s to the school that we honor,
Here´s to the school that we love,
May she forever be remembered,
For courage, faith, and truth . . .
