Statistics on recycling, reducing, and reusing!

This page has "number information" about recycling, reducing, and reusing.
It has the answer to some how much questions.

We have a few graphs that show how much we've been recycling at ASFM:

Paper Statistics      Plastic Statistics      Glass Statistics

These are some facts to help us understand how
important it is to help our earth!!!

Why should we recycle?

  • Making new things from recycled ones takes less money, less energy, and less of the Earth’s resources. Because less energy is used, factories don’t release as much pollution either. So RECYCLE!
  • What happens when we recycle a can?
Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline.
  • Why should we recycle glass instead of throwing it away?
A modern glass bottle would take 4000 years or more to decompose -- and even longer if it's in the landfill.
  • Why should we recycle batteries?
Around 600 million household batteries (22,000 tonnes) – the equivalent weight of 110 Jumbo Jets – are sent to landfill every year.  Batteries can leak heavy metals such as nickel and lithium into the soil and water supplies, putting people at risk of developing health problems.

Why should we use less (reduce)?
  • Why should we use less plastic bags? You can reuse them, or use cloth bags instead.
Each year, about 500  BILLION plastic bags are given out, and very few (4%) are recycled.
  • Why should we turn off the lights and computers when we are not using them?
About 75% of all electricity used in homes is used to keep things "on" or running when they're not actually being used
  • Why should we use less paper?
Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the U.S.
  • Why should we use a reusable bottle for our water?
Americans use 4 million plastic bottles every hour, but only 25% of plastic bottles are recycle.
