iCal is a personal calendar application that lets you easily keep track of appointments, view multiple calendars at the same time, share your calendar information with others, and more.
You can do many other things with iCal, from setting an alarm before an event occurs to tracking a To Do list. To learn more, click iCal Help in iCal to answer any questions you may have.
Here are some of the things you can do using iCal:
Create Events
File>New Event or drag from start time to end time on the calendar view to make a new event. You can also set how often you want the event to occur, choose to have an alarm go off before or after the event occurs, or create an all-day event. Events have been created for ELEM campus bells (see right panel).
Changing Events
iCal events are intuitive to make changes. You will be prompted to make changes to all events or the current event whenever you try to make any change. You should select the every future event option.
Volume of the Sounds/Bells
In order for the bells to ring, you must be logged in to your computer and have the sound volume turned all the way up for the computer and the alerts. Volume for computer is on top right of your screen. Sound volume for Alerts is found in Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound icon > Sound Effects Tab then adjusting the slider to maximum for Alert Volume.
Hiding Events (to UnClutter your iCal window)
Once you load the calendar, you can then hide the calendar by un-checking the box in iCal like this. The alarms will still function even though you can not see the events on your iCal anymore.

Changing Alarm Times
If you want to move the timings/alarm times of an event, you will have to add an event to your own calendar in iCal, set it to repeat on M,T,W,Th,F and set an alarm.
Troubleshooting
If bells are ringing at incorrect time, your computer time might not be set correctly. is to ensure that laptop is to synched.

Invite People
If the invitees are using iCal, they can add the event to their iCal calendars and easily receive any updates to the event information. If the user does not have his/her myVCard setup in Address Book, this will not function.
Publish Your Calendar
By publishing your calendar on our web server (contact IT Dept. for details), you can let people who aren't on the same computer see your calendar. Calendars you've published appear in your Calendars list with a broadcast icon (it looks like short, curved sound waves) beside them.
Subscribe to Calendars
Calendars you've subscribed to appear in your Calendars list with a curved arrow beside them.
Synchronizing to a Palm
If you have calendars on other devices (such as a Palm OS device or iSync-compatible phone), you can synchronize them with the calendars on your computer using iSync (in your Applications folder), so that each device has the latest information. Ask IT Dept. for help with the setup.
