Standardized Assessments

Every school uses some form of external standardized assessment to monitor the overall quality of program offered. The purpose of using external assessment data is:

  • Identify the skills and concepts individual students have learned.
  • Diagnose instructional needs.
  • Monitor academic growth over time.
  • Make data-driven decisions at the classroom, school, and district levels.
  • Place new students into appropriate instructional programs. ASFM uses two external standardized tests:
    • the Measures of Academic Progress (M.A.P.) and
    • the Evaluación Nacional del Logro Académico en Centros Escolares (ENLACE)

Measures of Academic Progress (M.A.P.)

ASFM is using a computerized adaptive test called Measures of Academic Progress (M.A.P.) which is developed by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). In a computerized adaptive test, the difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student's performance. The advantage of this testing process is that teachers and students receive prompt feedback and can then personalize instruction based on the student's needs.

As you may know, this was ASFM's first season hosting this kind of standardized assessment, and we are keen to involve and inform our parent community as we proceed down the path of data-driven assessment and learning.

All students in grades 3-6 have written the M.A.P. at least once, and we wish to extend into 7th and beyond in years to come.

Evaluación Nacional del Logro Académico en Centros Escolares (ENLACE)

The Evaluación Nacional del Logro Académico en Centros Escolares (ENLACE) is the National exam every student in public and private school takes in Mexico. It is a test designed to obtain additional information on education in Mexico in the areas of Math, Science and Spanish for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 12th grades.

This exam is not the type a student will pass or fail. The main goal is to reinforce and optimize the abilities and knowledge of our children, so their highest potential is met.

ENLACE is an additional tool for the teachers, administration, students and educational authorities from the country to know the actual evolution of education in all the levels: in the state, in the city, in the neighborhood, by group and by student.

The government of Mexico has done a good job explaining what ENLACE is, and how it is administered and monitored across the country.
