Curriculum Documents

The English Department at ASFM has developed a spiral and coherent curriculum using standards and benchmarks. The main source for developing the English Department standards and benchmarks document is Content Knowledge: A Compendium of Standards and Benchmarks for K-12 Education from Mid-continental Research for Education and Learning (McREL) and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

The English Department document is a dynamic document which is under constant review to be sure it is meeting the needs of the educational community. The purpose of an English Department standards and benchmarks document is to clarify and raise expectations, and to provide a common set of expectations for the entire educational community.

Additional courses offered by the English Department include Advanced Placement Language and Composition in Grade Eleven and Advanced Placement Literature and Composition in Grade Twelve.

Special events happening in the English Department include the publication of the FLY magazine/VOX newsletter and Middle School and High School ASOMEX Creative Writing Workshops.
