Overview
What are the main differences of having a desktop or a laptop.
|
|
| Desktop |
|
| Networked Hard Drive |
| When you use a networked desktop computer at the school, and you use your username and password to log in, you are actually accessing and storing data on a server's hard drive. |
| |
| The beauty of this, is that your information is available on whichever networked desktop computer around the school and your information is safely stored on a big hard drive. |
|
| |
| Restrictions |
| All desktop computers are administred by our IT staff and not all settings may be modified, because these are computers that can be switched between people and places. |
| |
| Every user has a storage quota of 3GB in which user preferences take about 1GB of space. That leaves a descent space about 2GB to store your work documents. |

| Laptop |

|
| Local Hard Drive |
| Because an assigned laptop is used by a single user, you have a roomy hard drive just for yourself, it varies depending the model. Get to know the Laptop Buy In program. |
| |
|
| |
| Wireless Network |
| Within most places of both schools your computer will have wireless network connection, so if you run out to a meeting you can have access to your email right there. |
| |
|
| |
| Be sure to BACKUP |
| All the info is stored locally and you should follow the backup policy and procedure to avoid data loss. |
