Online
Quizzes or Activities
|
|
This workshop comes with the caveat that this is not the only method of assessment
being advocated, it is merely a way to make one method of assessment easier
for you. We hope that you enjoy the session and make use of this technology
to eventually save you time.
The websites you are going to see are:
- 4teachers.org - This one has many resources for teachers,
one of which is Quizstar. Quizstar will take longer to setup but allows you
more control over student logins and assigning quizzes at certain times,
but short answers are not evaluated at all. (free access)
- quia.com - This site allows you to create and host online
activities, surveys and quizzes. It is easier to setup, but has less control
over access, so it seems better as a practice or homework tool. (accounts:
ELEM - See Marybell Rodriguez MSHS - see Phil Martin)
All of these types of online sites can be used either in:
- a controlled environment like a computer lab at the school
(like Sarah does with teacherweb) and only make the test available at certain
times (good for testing), or
- an uncontrolled environment just by making them available
to students by telling them where to go… literally… you give
them the address. (good for practice/review)
When you have your own time to explore these sites and ones like them, you
will find that they have the following sections:
- teacher section - where you have the following subsection
after you login as a teacher
- activity creation - make the activity with short answer, multiple choice,
true/false for automatic scoring
- class/student creation/setup - make classes and then students within
to match your groups to make transfer of grades and management easier
- activity assignment to classes - set date, time and class to which to
offer a quiz
- results area - view reports, get lists of grades
- student section - where students go to take the quiz and
see their results
If you want to login to Quizstar, follow these instructions:

This

or practice activity.
Here is how. |
  |
| 1. |

sitio esta disponible en español tambien.) |
This is not StarQuiz. |
| 2. |
At the right hand
side of the opening page you will see a variety of tools for teachers.
Click on the Quizstar icon. |
 |
| 3. |
On the Quizstar page,
follow the directions there to use the site as it is described above,
navigating to the teacher section for example. |
There are also options
