One of the great opportunities in Monterrey is the community service projects that take place throughout the year.  High school and elementary students help their community by raising funds, volunteering their time and lending a hand when needed. Several teachers on staff took the initiative to meet the needs of another community, Casa Hogar Douglas, an orphanage for 90 plus children. In addition to a Christmas toy drive, used bike collection, and food bank the teachers are now participating in restoration and repair projects.

The only requirement is to spend time playing and being with the kids. How hard can that be?  Strange how helping others in need leaves you feeling better than before you started.  Working with your peers outside the classroom adds another dimension to relationships and helps us strengthen the community we have here at our school. ASFM is not just a place of work and Mexico is not just a place for travel.
