2004. Hi! My name is Shari Loke. I teach Grade Two at ASFM. This is my second year teaching at this school, and it was not so long ago that I was in your shoes. I had many questions and concerns before I made the journey to Monterrey. I was enlightened by the fact that there were so many people willing to help me answer the questions and address the concerns that I had. Before I even arrived, I felt a sense of connection with the people I had spoken with. I gathered as much information as I could to make the transition from Canada to Monterrey as easy as possible. I will make one recommendation to you. If you do not speak Spanish, or if you speak very little, I encourage you to take lessons before you arrive. Even though some people in Monterrey speak English, it would be helpful if you brushed up on your skills. Once you arrive, there is an opportunity to take Spanish classes after school. |
| One
thing I really enjoy about this school is the sense of togetherness. Everyone
is willing to help in any way they can. It is definitely a team oriented
environment. There is never a dull moment in the Monterrey community. No matter where your interests lie, there is something to do for you. Whether it is rock climbing, going to Art galleries and museums, out for nice dinners, shopping, movies, or to the theater, there is definitely always something going on. If you are heavily into recreation and sports, the teachers set up after school sports for all to enjoy. Also, there a variety of gyms to explore if that is your forte. But, before you join any gym, I would really check out each one to compare them so that you are being offered everything you wish for. If you have any questions, or would like more information, please feel free to email me. (shari.loke@asfm.edu.mx) |
