January 2008.

I teach Mexican History in grade 10, MUN/Secretariat for grades 10, 11 and 12, and I am the Social Studies Department Head at Campus Huasteca. I have worked at ASFM for 20 consecutive years. Wow, that is quite a long time! Some people find it hard to understand why someone can remain in the same place for so many years, but each year here has provided an opportunity to grow, learn, adjust, update, contribute to and witness the amazing metamorphosis that ASFM has achieved.
Why is ASFM Monterrey such a good spot for a teacher whether or not is local or import? Some reasons come to my mind.

First, the people: whether it is the parents, the A team, the staff, the students, or the whole community, we make a great team together with one purpose in mind: to do our best. Second, there is something very unique in the warmth and close relationship that develops among teachers, students, and the whole community. Third, working with a friendly staff improves the school environment and motivates everyone to try harder every day.

Respect and tolerance are easily felt around here, and to a great extent actively enforced. Most parents will go out of their way to get to know their children’s teachers, in order to cooperate and work with them. In spite of the differences and diverse philosophies among so many well-prepared staff members, there is one common goal: the students’ academic, social, and emotional success.

In addition, the city offers interesting contrasts: if you choose to live according to the community standards, then a pampered life, pretty much like first world countries awaits here. If you choose to live a more adventurous life, then, there are still some virgin areas to explore, or you can travel extensively, practice outdoor sports, do community service, and so many other things!

Definitely, the opportunity to interact with US and Canadian colleagues and learning our Mexican culture, with our traditions, festivities, language, and lifestyle among other things are reasons enough to think about the "move" to Mexico.

Welcome to ASFM and Monterrey - our "City of Mountains"!
