I didn't have to try hard to think about what would best explain
a few of the things that I love about this wonderful city and school.
I merely tried to think back to what I thought Mexico would be like and
why I was coming here, and then realized that it had turned out to be
so much more than I had expected.
I remember being slightly apprehensive about not knowing what Monterrey was going
to be like. I had heard that there were mountains and a canyon and a big industrial
city and a great school, but that was all I knew.
Here is what I make of it now. I originally came for my two year contract, and
I am now in my sixth year of teaching here and still loving every minute of it.
So you can see that I must like it here. Let me explain why.
From the moment you get here, 'the school' takes care of you. We are pampered.
That is the best way to describe it. I am not saying that nobody complains about
the state of things, but hey, you get one in every bunch, right? We may work
hard, but we are well rewarded and we really do lead an easy life because of
all that the school does for us.
The kids are fantastic, fun and creative. Chances to learn new things and to
share with others are abundant-making this a great place to grow as a professional.
The other part of enjoying working here is the chance to live here. We are in
a corner of the city which is completely safe and which is very very close to
the mountains. In the words of a visitor this week, "I heard that the mountains
were right here, but wow, they *really* are *right* here." I am fairly active,
and I like to enjoy the canyon (desert surrounded by mountain chains) which is
5 minutes by car from the gate of the middle/high school. I often run, climb,
or motorcycle in the canyon. It is a spectacular place even if you only want
to just go and sit and watch it. You don't have to be active to enjoy the place.
Watching the light dance on the walls of the mountains as the sun is setting
is magical.
I will not say more so as to give you time to peruse the other letters to see
what the others have to say about this place.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email
me.
