Students in grades 6 through 12 have some form of direct and/or indirect contact with at least one of the guidance counselors several times during each academic year.

The guidance counselor works with students, teachers, and parents to promote mental health, optimum academic achievement, healthy socio-emotional adjustments, and informed college and career choices. The counselor is available for conferences on an individual or group basis. It is wise to set up an appointment but it is not always necessary.

The counselor also monitors students' cumulative records which include grades, comment sheets, conference reports, and test scores. The counselor works with the registrar to prepare records for all withdrawing and graduating students. This includes recommendations and transcripts.

Student Referral Procedures: The guidance counselors/psychologists, together with the resource specialists, process student referrals, arrange and conduct Student Study meetings with teachers, administrators, and parents, and provide follow-up information and services to the Student Study process.

Orientation and Exiting Program: The guidance counselors are involved in the orientation of new students and parents throughout the year as needed, as well as providing follow-up with new students once they have been enrolled. Families of students leaving the school, are given guidance and support by the counselors in their withdrawal process.

Planning & Building: The guidance counselors are involved in student class schedules as needed throughout the year. The master schedule is adjusted annually in conjunction with administration in order to provide the necessary resource and support services for students.

Counseling: The school psychologists apply cognitive, academic and social/emotional tests to assess individual needs on a referral basis. The guidance counselors provide individual counseling as needed with regards to academic, social, and emotional concerns. Group counseling programs can be offered to help meet the needs of students with similiar concerns. When necessary, family intervention is sought and referrals are made to outside resources.
