MUN lists for 09/10
Students have finished a very comprehensive process to apply for the small number of MUN positions available next year. Applicants had to submit an essay, fill in an application, and there was even a peer review for some classes. As there are only 25 spots available for each grade level, some students will be disappointed, but can still participate in MUN simulations and trips, without being in an MUN class. Students who did not complete the application and write an essay were not considered. The lists will be posted this week on the office windows and on the front page of the website.

Final Procedures/Yearbook Distribution
Students want their yearbooks and they wish to avoid the long lines at the Bookroom during awards assembly week. If a textbook is lost or damaged students will need to pay for it with a check made out to "ASFM". Sorry, we do not accept any cash or checks made out to "El Portador". A list of textbooks owed to the Bookroom will be posted at the end of the grade level hallways this week.

Final Weeks
The year end has forced us to make adjustments to our regular program. Students are expected to be responsible for knowing these details and communicating with their parents. Detailed schedules will be posted throughout the school. Parents are encouraged to call the school, check the website, or drop by if more information is needed. Summer Library Use
We are once again open for check-outs, and we are lenient with regard to students who would like to check out books while on summer vacation.
We will not charge overdue fees at all, but we do ask that they respect the two-week checkout periods when possible. (That way kids will be inclined to come in to renew and to return books when they are done with them - keeping them in circulation for others to access.)
Library Summer Hours*:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 - 4:30
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Closed
*There will also be a two-week period in July that the library will be closed. Notice will be posted on the library door and bulletin board.

NJHS event
The National Junior Honor Society would like to thank the ASFM community for its cooperation in all the projects we had the opportunity to participate. This was a great year for all of us! Among other activities we had a chance to spend some time with the elderly at DIF Santa Catarina, sharing necessary items with them. At Casa Hogar María del Refugio, we were able to brighten the day of girls who do not live with their families; doing crafts with these girls was a meaningful experience for everyone involved. We were fortunate to collect a considerable sum of money for the children at Hogar de la Misericordia; these money will be donated to them through the "¡Que vivan los niños!" organization. It is rewarding to know we could help those who are less fortunate. Within the school we organized bake sales, supply/toys drive, events' sales (PTA Party, ASOMEX) and grams sales. These fundraising activities were key to help as many people as we could. Thank you all for your cooperation! We are looking forward to another successful year full of sharing and moments to treasure.

We invite ALL students at ASFM to be part of our efforts. Our doors are always open to everyone. Thank you and congratulations to the new crew!

Advisory Time
Our Middle School Advisory Program during conference period guides the academic, social and emotional learning of adolescents as they navigate through this unique stage in their lives. Education is a dynamic process that involves both academic and “real life” experiences, our Advisory Program is in place to assist our middle school students with the “adolescent balancing act”. Modern educational research indicates that adolescence is a stage of development when an individual works through many struggles related to identity, self-knowledge, and social challenges. It is proven that these challenges are significantly easier to face, when students feel supported by a teacher advisor. Advisory programs provide this adult guidance that is necessary during this crucial developmental time.
This week we have:
6th--No Conference
7th--No Conference
8th--No Conference

HIGH SCHOOL

Conference Period
As you well know, ASFM is promoting much more than academic excellence. The whole child is focused on and values and character education are part of our program. We have included in our schedule each Wednesday a conference period during which smaller groups of students gather with a teacher to discuss issues, events and other items that are of importance to our student body. This is an excellent way for teachers to check in on students and get to know them better. Also it provides an opportunity for students to get to know their peers in a non-academic setting.
This week we have:
9th--No Conference
10th--No Conference
11th--No Conference
12th--No Conference
