Grade nine
is a year of transition from middle school to high school and a
time for important decisions regarding their future. Teachers respect
this transition, but continue to support students in providing information
and discussing the choices students need to make as young adults.
A large emphasis is placed on moving the decision making control
from teachers to students.
This is the
first year that students are officially in the upstairs high school
classrooms, but are still taking most courses in the grade nine
hallway located upstairs. This is the year when students will "graduate"
with a Mexican diploma for successfully completing their education
through grade nine. However, this graduation means students must
decide to stay at ASFM, or attend another local preparatory/high
school program.
In addition,
students will be receiving important information about choices for
grade ten courses and beyond. This requires planning for the future
so they are ready to make the best course choices. Students also
hear important college information from visiting college representatives
and the guidance counselor. Grade nine also becomes the important
first year for grades and the impact they can have on course and
college choices in the future.
Life in Grade
9
Being
in grade nine has more responsibility than Grade 8. Since it
is the first year of high school you have to get used to the
workload and expectations of your teachers. In ninth grade
you start the community service program. This gives you a chance
to help and learn about other people, who are not as fortunate
as we are. You have lunch time with the older students and
have graduation to look forward to. Ninth grade includes a
very important decision for your future. Whether you will stay
at ASFM for Bachillerato or go to another school.

In
grade 9 you have to start to take things seriously. Students
start to think about their transcripts for University applications.
At this stage you need to begin to think about goals and what
you want to accomplish in life. This can help you become more
organized and be more successful in life. You will always remember
this grade as being the beginning of new stage in your life.
