Welcome to Third Grade!
I want to welcome you to our team at ASFM!
My name is Verónica Morales and I have the pleasure of being the third grade team leader. At ASFM, there are seven different sections of third grade, and each class ranges from 19-22 students. Our team is made up talented individuals with unique personalities, who combine to form a dedicated and incredible group of people to work with. Everyone is always willing to help out and has a great level of professionalism. Each homeroom teacher is responsible for teaching Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. We have Specialists that teach Spanish, Technology, Music, Art and P.E. There is also a Resource Teacher at each grade level and an Optimal Match (enrichment program) teacher for several grade levels. You will be able to coordinate your teaching program with the OM/Resource teacher as needed.
ASFM is a dynamic and exciting place! We work hard but have a very rewarding professional life as a result. ASFM has a standards and benchmarks based curriculum. Through our balanced literacy program, we are able to teach whole group mini-lessons as well as small group instruction. ASFM has a wide variety of teaching resources. Our bookroom has novel sets, teacher resources and leveled books for teaching Guided Reading. Our writing program comes from Lucy Caulkin's Units of Study. We use the Everyday Math program from the University of Chicago to teach math. Social Studies and Science units are created by teachers around our standards and benchmarks. Some of these include The Way Things Work, Space, Cultures Around the World and Government.
