History
Over 90 Years of Inspiring Learning
In the summer of 1928, a group of English-speaking families in Monterrey came together with one goal: to provide quality education in English for their children. With the support of several American companies, the American School of Monterrey opened its doors on September 3, 1928, serving 57 students in grades 1–10.
Just a few months later, ASFM was officially established as a Private Civil Society under Mexican law.
Throughout the years, the school moved locations multiple times to accommodate its rapid growth. In 1944, a group of visionary individuals and 12 supporting companies founded the American School Foundation of Monterrey, transforming ASFM into a nonprofit institution committed to educational excellence.
By 1956, enrollment had reached 450 students, and a major fundraising campaign—led by community members and U.S. businesses—allowed for the construction of a new campus on Río Missouri, inaugurated in 1958.
In the 1990s, driven by increasing demand, the school embarked on a bold new vision: a modern, purpose-built campus near the beautiful Huasteca Canyon. The new site opened in 1996 for Middle and High School students and later expanded to house all grade levels by 2010.
ASFM’s growth has always been fueled by the generosity and dedication of its community. Projects like the Edge of Excellence Campaign, launched in 2016, have created state-of-the-art learning spaces designed for 21st-century education.
In 2020, ASFM led the way in pandemic response—becoming the first school in Monterrey to shift to online learning and the first to safely reopen, with over 2,600 students and teachers tested for COVID-19. This effort set a national example for safe in-person learning.
Today, ASFM is a vibrant, international N–12 private school, serving over 2,400 students on a 212,000 m² high-tech campus. More than 12,000 alumni have passed through its doors, each carrying forward our legacy of innovation, community, and excellence.
Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.
