This week's column on inclusion contains a link to information provided by the NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals). According to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control in the U.S., about 1 in 68 school-aged children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Considering the prevalence of children on the autism spectrum, it’s essential that every school leader makes an effort to understand how to best educate these students. I try to keep informed through the NAESP and its publications. Principals face many challenges in leading for the 21st century. Part of my role is to help inform our community. The NAESP was founded in 1921 and is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and overseas. In this week's article, you will find a link to help our community learn more about autism. Time is precious to everyone and I hope the five minutes spent following this link provides you with integral information we each can use. The more we know, the better we are!
