Our mission is to guarantee that the school’s food services provide a range of affordable, fresh and nutritious food options through food safety practices, nutrition guidelines and perfect service.
The Food Services and Nutrition department works to develop and strengthen, through educational programs, healthy eating habits to ensure the physical and emotional growth of the ASFM community including students, faculty and staff; to achieve a healthy and successful life as stated in ASFM’s vision.

Kindergarten students don’t visit the cafeteria throughout a school day.
1st grade students visit the cafeteria once a day, during lunch time.
2nd-5th grade students visit the cafeteria twice a day: during recess/break and lunch.
*NOTE: If a student stays in school for after school sports then it’s possible to visit the cafeteria as soon as classes are over.
Kindergarten & 1st students have a 15 minutes recess, this recess does not take place in the cafeteria. It’s advised to pack a snack from home.
2nd-5th grade students have a 20 minutes recess, they may only get food from cafeteria during the first 15 minutes.
Kindergarten students have a 20 minutes lunch, food is delivered from cafeteria to their classrooms.
1st & 2nd graders have a 20 minutes recess, they may only get food from cafeteria the first 15 minutes.
3rd & 4th graders have a 20 minutes recess, they may only get food from cafeteria the first 15 minutes.
5th graders have a 20 minutes recess, they may only get food from cafeteria the first 15 minutes.
MSHS: Students from 6th-12th grade have a 15 minutes recess and a 25 minutes lunch.

Elementary’s daily menu includes 2 options to choose from. Both options include: 1 protein serving, 1 carbohydrate serving and 1 vegetable serving.

Heat & Go
Heat & Go menu includes: pizza, ham and cheese sandwich, nutella sandwich, vegetable panini, chicken panini and shredded meat sandwich.
Grab & Go
Grab & Go menu includes: snacks, jelly, fruit cups, chicken salad and Caesar salad.
On May 16th, 2014 the Mexican Department of Education (SEP) published on the Official Journal of Federation the food and beverages guidelines that must be met by all school cafeteria suppliers in schools around the country. This document bans and limits soda and junk food sale.
Even if the school wanted to, this government measures prohibit some foods and beverages from being available for students to buy inside school grounds.

A typical daily menu consists of 1 protein serving, 1 carbohydrate serving and 1 vegetable serving, 1 beverage (water or agua fresca).
All menus and recipes are created by registered dietitians and a nutritionist who take into consideration student’s age and energy requirements.
Throughout time ASFM has worked in collaboration with nutrition and health professionals to develop recipes and menus:
- Elsa Sada, Health coach and Nutritional expert
- Daniela Arce, bachelor of Nutrition Science from Universidad de Monterrey
- Gabriela Garza, bachelor of Nutrition Science from Universidad de Monterrey
All food is prepared inside ASFM’s kitchens by our food concessionaire (Blue Leaf Servicios de Alimentación). Both, the installations and the personnel, operate under guidelines and techniques established by Distintivo H. Last Distintivo H certification took place December 5th, 2017 and it lasts for 1 year.
The Distintivo "H" is a recognition granted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health, to those fixed food and beverage establishments, for complying with the Hygiene standards established by the Mexican Standard NMX-F605 NORMEX 2004.
ASFM is the only N-12th grade school with a Distintivo H certification for it’s cafeterias granted by the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Health in the whole state of Nuevo León.
Distintivo H program is 100% preventive, which ensures the warning of contamination that could cause a foodborne illness. This program includes food reception guidelines which prohibit the reception of food that wasn’t prepared inside ASFM’s kitchen and by Blue Leaf’s staff.
If you wish to warm food from home there are microwaves available on both cafeterias.
Blue Leaf was selected after a 6 months through bidding process in which other 5 food services companies participated.
- The process started with visits to top school’s from Nuevo León to analyze their food services options.
- The next step was to run a careful evaluation of food services companies. This evaluation included meetings, interviews and on site visits with the companies’ staff.
- In collaboration with ASFM’s legal affairs and finance department a list of requirements was elaborated.
- An invitation to participate in the bidding process was handed to selected food services companies which had pass the first filter.
- Companies who handed documents on time were evaluated by a school committee.
- Blue Leaf got the highest evaluation when complying to ASFM’s requirements.
A 1st-5th grade student may use prepaid meal plan, cashless balance or bring cash any day to the cafeteria.
Prepaid meal plan
Parents pay a meal for every school day of the month to have their kids eat at lunch. Monthly menu available in advance.
Parents deposit money on their kids cafeteria account. This balance can be free to spend on any food item or controlled to spend on just certain items.
Students line up and purchase any food or beverage they wish with cash.
Students participating on a prepaid meal plan have a separate line, this speeds up the service providing them a more relaxed and enjoyable lunch experience. Elementary’s daily menu includes 2 options to choose from (for access to this menu go to question #3).
Prepaid meal plan students may come back to cafeteria to get more food and/or beverages if desired, no additional lunch cost generated.
- Once the bell rings every student may come inside the building and into the cafeteria.
- Prepaid meal plan students have a special and separate line (Red arrows on the floor indicate where the line starts and finishes).
- Once the students line up they’re able to look at both food options on the screens (for access to this menu go to question #3).
- At the beginning of the line students must give their names and what they’ve chosen to eat.
- Once students get their food and beverage they leave the line and go to their assigned table.
- Students may go back to the cafeteria ro get more food and/or beverages if desired up to 3 times, no additional cost generated.
- As soon as the time given to get food is over students get a 2 minutes warning to allow them to finish eating, get their dirty plates back to the kitchen, throw their garbage away and finally lineup to return to their classrooms.
You have 2 payment options:
Monday - Friday: 8am - 9:30am, 10:30am - 12:00pm, 1:30pm - 1:30pm
Monday - Wednesday - Thursday 3:30pm - 4:00pm
Tuesday 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Friday 2:30pm - 4:00pm
Monday-Friday from 8am to 4:00pm, break and lunch hours are the only exceptions.
*In order to give students, parents and faculty the best service it’s not possible to receive payments during break, recess and lunch hours.

Inside Elementary’s building and around it’s outdoors areas there are 22 water fountains and 3 bottle filler and cooler stations.
Inside MSHS building and around it’s outdoors areas there are 35 water fountains and 15 bottle filler and cooler stations.
Water available on both the water fountains and the bottle filler stations have filters and a silver ion antimicrobial protection on its key components to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew.
For ASFM is important to have available to students drinking water solutions that have a positive impact on the environment. These solutions save plastic bottles from waste.
Meatless Monday is a non-profit initiative founded in 2003 in the United States by Sir Lerner in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This initiative has strategic environment impact purposes because it’s been proven that eating less meat significantly reduces our carbon footprint and our use of the most important natural resource for humans, water.
MEatless Monday at ASFM is a student driven initiative. The Green Team, alongside school staff members analyzed environmental, health and nutrition aspects of this issue. As an educational institution ASFM’s mission is to educate creating a conscious community in order to make this world we live in sustainable for generations to come.

Meatless Monday at ASFM takes place at MSHS for students, faculty and staff since January 12th, 2018 and at Elementary for faculty and staff since February 12th, 2018.
During recess you may find the following breakfast option: Tacos with beans, bell pepper strips, mushrooms, eggs and potato.
During lunch you may find:
- Two hot meals options: both with a main dish and sides with 1 protein (no meat) serving, 1 carbohydrate serving and 1 vegetable serving.
- Soup of the day (no meat)
- Chilaquiles (no chicken)
