About TEDxYouth@ASFM

• A suite of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations and performances that are idea-focused, and cover a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter.
• These talks will be uploaded to TEDx Youtube Channel, where there are more than 20,000 talks and have been watched in more than 130 countries.
• 18 minutes maximum per talk because this short talk model requires the attention of the audience for a short period of time, decreasing the chance of letting minds wander around

All TEDx events present multiple issues and a diversity of voices from many disciplines. After all, what’s the fun without a little variety?

We invite you to do some brainstorming, to pick out the best idea that you have in mind.

• What's a controversy in your field that a general audience would understand?
• What's a common misconception you'd love to clear up?
• Why is this idea important, and to whom?
• Who would disagree with you, and why?
• How did you carry out this idea in your own work?
• What's the big idea behind your new project? How did you sell that idea to funders and collaborators?

What could be an idea worth sharing?

Something that’s new and surprising; an idea or invention that your audience has never heard about.

OR

A great basic idea (that your audience has maybe already heard) with a compelling new argument behind it that challenges beliefs and perspectives.

• ASFM’s High School students and staff. Students include young adults from ages 15 to 19.
• The fact that this is our first TEDx event at ASFM, TED limits us to an audience of 100 members. A few of them will get personal invitations while the rest will be allowed to purchase their own ticket later in the year.

• Even though we are also striving to get well-known speakers, we believe there are many local people who have experienced something special, who have something they want to share with us, and who deserve a platform.
• Our goal is to give students, adults, entrepreneurs, kids… anyone (Not only ASFM) an opportunity to be heard. We are inviting anyone from our community to apply to be a speaker.
• We will be looking at applications closely and will select the ones we believe are best. Also, later in the year we will be holding auditions in order to perfect each and every talk.

• A TEDx event isn't an industry or marketing conference. It isn't limited to one topic or field. It isn't used to sell something.
• A TEDx event is not organized by or for special-interest political, religious or commercial groups
• A TEDx event cannot be used to raise money, not even for a charity.
• A TEDx event cannot partner with another conference or event.
• A TEDx event can't be co-branded with an institution except under specific license types - for a college or university, or for internal events (for corporations and organizations.)
• A TEDx event is not a platform for professional speakers, such as motivational speakers and professional life coaches. Its purpose is to give a platform to those who don't often have one.
• A TEDx event is not focus solely on entrepreneurship, business or technology. Diversity of topics is key!
