Dear ASFM community,
Hello to all. I hope this Weekly Eagle message finds you safe and well. As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic presents the most serious public health crisis the world has experienced in generations. Looking forward to the 2020-2021 school year and our August 10th start date, ASFM is resolved to do everything it can to initiate the school year with onsite learning because we believe doing so is in the best interest of student learning and our entire community. We recognize, however, that we need to use a flexible roadmap for reopening our campus in a safe manner with the health and wellbeing of our entire community in mind at all times.
For this purpose, we have put together a 2020-2021 Learning Scenarios Roadmap that is guided by the assumption that a vaccine will most likely not be available for 12-18 months. Because of this, ASFM needs to be able to respond quickly to circumstances in our own school community as well as to conditions in Mexico. We will need to be prepared to “toggle” between different learning scenarios designed to fit a variety of circumstances and needs. We must also be prepared to move back to a full distance learning model with very little advance notice if need be.
The ASFM Roadmap was researched and developed by a group of ASFM leaders and educators and is based on best practices from around the world, trends and plans from other schools, experience from the past 11 weeks, governmental protocols and effective pedagogy for learners in grades nursery through 12. Through regular and ongoing meetings, our team is committed to maintaining awareness of global best practices in the management of COVID-19 and to monitoring all recommendations that come from the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the Mexican health authorities. Any and all changes, adjustments, additions, and/or clarifications will be shared with the ASFM community over the next two months in preparation for August.
Our ASFM Learning Scenarios Roadmap includes the following information:
- Commitment and Guiding Principles
- Drivers for Decision Making
- Possible learning Scenarios for August
- Scenario B (Hybrid) Statements and general explanations
- Important Reminders
Please use this link to access our Roadmap and read more about our plans for August of 2020.
Thank you again to teachers and to parents for all your effort and dedication to our ASFM learners. Take care, stay safe and don’t forget to watch this week’s video where I talk about the upcoming transition to a unique and flexible learning scenario in August. As always, please feel free to reach out to me personally if you have a question, doubt, positive comment, or concern; or if you want to just say hello.
